Does anybody else find the very high end of hi fi ugly ?

Honestly, when all the dream components of amazing price tags are assembled it is just a bloody mess.

Indeed, it's funny how bad most of 'em look. However there is some great looking stuff out there too - Aqua Acoustic, MSB, Nagra, Accuphase, Naim (Statement), Magico speakers and many more. But true, most look like garbage.

It's all about the effect though?
The affect is the majority of us find the high , high end is unaffordable , unusable and unrealistic for the homes we have and the rooms we have to place our equipment.
High end are more like concept cars in the auto industry. The cost is applied to cover the research and time used in development of the products. The majority of the magic are still just electronic boards and circuits. 12 woofers and 38 tweeters make assembly more costly. The high price is not just about them being sonically superior. 6 foot high speakers and 185kg turntables are not going to sell in vast amounts. Output will be low and profit needs to be maximised. We see fancy boxes and go wow! The truth is that if you can buy most of the Uber range gear God is telling you that you have too much money than you need.
Always interesting to see of course but it really is just bling. The magic comes when the development in the technology filters down in the products that are practical and affordable.

Most hifi begins to look rubbish as soon as you start adding cables. At the higher end the cables get fatter, tackier and are strewn across the floor for all to see.
