Hi all

This is my first approach to the hifi world so...I just knowledged now that an av receiver would not be as good as an amplifier,What it is a preamplifier?...I said this because I need a new system, my first, starting budget 650 pounds. love the surround effect but honestly I spend 60% music,30% gaming, 10% movies in terms of time consuming. room size...4.80meters long.3m high,6,50 meters wide. I like all varieties of music,rock,pop,dance,"commercial",techno,classical...anything good whatever the style,mid-high volume, I love the streaming programs of music and my aim is to connect my computer(windows) to the system so I can play my games and use the spootify trough it or my iPad air as we'll. I auditioned the tannoy 101 with the Yamaha 375, I liked it, the movie dialogues sound crystal clear and the sub did a good job but, I will like to hear other options. I went to richer sounds by the way and hat would be I think the only place to hear the system around my area... I am thinking that maybe for that price I can find a 2.0/2.1 stereo speakers that could impress me so much, that the 5.1 could be just be left as an upgrade for later on. Anyone willing to give any possible option regarding my needs??

thanks in advance for your time

I have a Hifi system as well as a 5.1 surround system in diffent rooms and I have the best of both worlds. My Hifi thrashes my Recever for music and as 60% of your listening is for music buy a HiFi that also satisfies your Gaming needs! An Integrated amlifier has a pre amp and power amp in one box if you buy a seperate pre amp it has all the inputs eg cd, tuner & turntable etc and the amplifier boost the weak preamp signal so it can drive the speakers.

You need to work out what connections you need eg optical or phono in etc and then go demo what meets your needs eg why buy 5.1 surround system if Movies are only 10% of your needs unless it only meets the connections you require?

Best wishes

You might want to read this thread ... Using an AV amp in your HI-FI set up?

If you don't mind having two pieces of equipment, you could go with a hifi system for music and a soundbar or soundbase for general TV work which is less intrusive than a full AV speaker setup. Something like the Yamaha R-N500D for a hifi setup might be up your street if you liked the Yamaha AV receiver.

Hi!

I mainly use my CPU/iPad as my personal library, spootify+own cd's recorded in the computer, which it has got an optical output from the motherboard. My budget is 650 pounds to start with, after researching could it be a good option to start. With the Dalizensor 1+ sony 1040 and then eventually upgrade it to a 5.1 from the same brand?2nd option is the 5.1 tannoy with Yamaha 375 or 675. It seems that the av has de Imputs I need, but I will need it with streaming capabilities. I just don't want to pick one that hasn't music touch. In the world of preamplifier or integrated amps, I am lost...any recomendation that will fit my starting budget?

many thanks for the answer

HI!

interesting post! I reed it all and I think I learn a few things but, it is not very conclusive. I can not have to systems at the moment as my budget is tight but, as I said I think that maybe starting with two front loudspeakers of good quality withn my budget, and a av receiver would give, the best of both words...if eventually I finish the 5.1 system later on. Unless there is an integrated amplifier that can offer streaming and optical or coaxial outputs for my CPU or iPad with good sound quality within that range, the 5.1/av receiver could be an add on, to this option, in a future...

thanks for replying

Why not use a dac with a HiFi and that way you can get the music from your pc via the dac into the HiFi, I have an Onkyo 905 Avreciver it was £1500 and I use it with B&W 685 Theatre. The music is good but my HIFI still beats it and it cost a lot less. When you go to audition get them to use a dac and HiFi and compare it to a5.1 system that way you can make an informed choice and buy what makes you enjoy your media!

Best Wishes
