Read that twice, was it an optical illusion?

No.
Two optical leads, both meeting the relevant technical/industry standards, will sound identical no matter who made them.

No
None (if made to meet the appropriate electrical and safety standards).
No

I have sonic impact amp which runs from transformer or batteries..i rigged it up..thru my audiolab pre amp into my dynaudio 42s..if anyone interested it uses a tripath chip..(google sonic impact reviews..jaw dropping) anyway i bought a transformer from maplins to give bout three extra watts of power! Lol...i used batteries as a comparison and no difference to sound, batteries very clean power im assuming as the mains it seems isnt? So if batteries didnt make amp sound better? Why would flash mains cables? Thats my argument!

MajorFubar said:Best advice I can give is only buy anything like this if you have the option to return it if not satisfied. Clearly what you hear through your speakers is modulated mains one way or another, because the line-outputs from your source components won't drive your speakers very loud, so a nice clean mains can't be a bad thing can it, even if like me you're skeptical about the alleged claims. But when it comes to hifi fuses, treated plugs and crap like that, I smell a con. Tread carefully.

Put your ear to your speakers with nothing playing on a line input. Hear any hum? No? Then there is no trace of mains coming from your amp and whatever you do with the mains won't affect your gear in the slightest.

b...b...b...but Gazzip, I'm not claiming it sounds better. I hated the build quality of the lead supplied with my amp. It actually offended me. It was safe and it met all the relevant British and European standards, but I decided to go and order the 'standard' Naim cable (with MK plug) for £32 from my local dealer and they let me try the extremely well made C-Power (ex-demo) for a very knock down price instead. It doesn't bug me like the original. That's worth thirty-ish quid to me.
P.S. You can get a Bussmann 5A fuse anywhere including our local B&Q. Not a big deal.
