For me, a disappointment was the Paradigm Seismic 110 subwoofer, which What Hi-Fi reviewed very favourably here, by Home Cinema Choice magazine here and by Home Theater High Fidelity here. I went to my friendly local dealer to listen to it, and, wisely as it turned out, I took my Tannoy TS12 subwoofer with me, reviewed by What Hi-Fi here. This was in order to hear something with which I was familiar, in strange surroundings, and then to listen to the new subwoofer afterwards. I listened to the first seven or so minutes of the Blu-ray of Blade Runner, and then about 8 minutes and 30 seconds into Star Trek, just after the midwife says to Kirk's mother "Okay. I want you to push now."

I had gone to the demonstration expecting, and wanting, the Paradigm to be much better than my Tannoy TS12 - it is, after all, thrice the price. What I actually heard though, was not that. I couldn't hear much difference between the two subwoofers at all, certainly not in ultimate depth, and maybe not in precision eitherl. I stress that I couldn't hear much difference, maybe other people, with ears that are not middle-aged, might have noticed a difference. So I decided against buying the Paradigm Seismic 110, which is why I ended up buying the SVS PC-12 Plus instead, with which I am very happy.

I know, I'm sorry, CnoEvil, I did try to like the Paradigm Seismic 110 subwoofer, but I just couldn't!

There is certainly no need to be sorry.......and shows why one should only use advice/reviews to draw up a short list and then have the strength to follow your own opinion.

I was struggling to think of anything but a few recent threads jogged my memory. Firstly, Pioneer's A400 - I just didn't get on with it. Secondly, Mission's 78 series speakers from around 10 years ago - nothing special.
