Never been into auction sites but a couple of weeks ago was having a look around and bought an Arcam DV79 and an Arcam A65+ both for £200. Connected them to my old B&W speakers through a Chord Crimson Plus and I must say for what I have paid I am so pleased with the sound. Its the best sound that has ever been in my house. My home cinema system now sounds so flat in comparison.

My main point is that five years ago this kit would of cost £1500. With a few scratches here and there I think £200 is a bargain.

Has anybody else had any real secondhand bargains?

Mmm dunno if i would call it HiFi !! I purchased a Technics SA-EX100 Reciever Amp for my dad the other week for £14.10 + P&P off fleabay as his 1972 Goodmans had finally gone up the spout. Works a treat in fact, as far as the sound from it is concerned ( after i gave it a little service ), i thought it sounded as good as my Denon av amp if not a touch better using a 1985 Akai CD-A7 cd player. My dad is well happy with it & it runs his old early 70's Rogers speakers ok too, the best he's heard them in years he told me. So yes i would call that a bargain.

I recently went to a local general auction where they sell off loads of antiques, furniture and general junk, and 4 pieces of yamaha gear caught my eye. There was a job lot consisting of : AV amp, tuner, cd player and a dvd player.

I hung around until the auction started up and won the lot for £12. I had intended on starting a sonos setup starting in the dining room, but for £12, and as I also had an airport express and a pair of little mordaunt short 302's hanging around I couldn't resist. This is more than adequate for the amount of time spent dining.

What the other Duke might call a Bobby Dazzler.
