I hope to venture into blu ray at the high end of the market and I have a shortlist of 3 Denon DVD-3800BD, Marantz BD-8002 and the pioneer BDP-LX91. Having had a great time with dvd's , I've decided to take a leap to the hi-def world the 3 playes mention will all be around the £1500. I am more familiar with pioneer as I've used the dvd player for the past 7 years. I've also noticed that these players are built like small tanks (maybe just to justify the hefty price) in a age of slimming down.

Does anyone have an idea if these will be far superior from you average 300-500 blu rays. I do like my players to be heavy weights my Pioneer DV-989AVi is such a best with great pictures to boot. I say the BDP-LX91 and it is a lot bigger and bulkier than the BDP-LX71 which is due so LX91 around november.

The best we've seen is brief demos of pre-production units of all the above Blu-ray players - all have impressed, but in isolation and with no A/B comparison with cheaper players. We'll obviously be putting them through their paces as soon as we get them.

In the meantime, we DO have in the £800 Denon Blu-ray transport - the Denon DVD-2500BT - which is a highly appealing prospect for those of you who already have a decent AV receiver capable of all the decoding/upscaling bells and whistles. We'll be reviewing that very shortly....
