Comments please on the merits of the Spendor A6 in a battle with Totem Hawk , PMC FB1i - we are running a Nait xs and Flatcap 2 x into them in a 20 ' x 12' room

Looking for clarity at low volume and the usual great scale and soundstage . I know that WHFSAV five star the Spendors

But what about the rest ?

cheers

Spendors, being on the smoother side, tend to like a bit of driving. At lower volumes they'll come across even smoother, which to many equates to a lack of detail. The PMC's will fare better in this respect, having a more lively sound that won't lack extension at frequency extremes. I'd also throw ProAc D28 into this category, and the Dynaudio Excite X32. All will work extremely well with the Naim. I can't comment on the Totem.

I find my Spendors every bit as detailed at low volumes as high (not trying to be pedantic David, just a matter of interpretation). I listen a lot at very low volumes and find the detail to be holographic and breathtaking. Very smooth speakers though

I'm talking about the SA1 and not the A6 so it might not apply in the same way.

Yes iggs, I find that the SA1s are excellent at low volumes and very detailed thats why I love them, and have read that they do not conform to the usual Spendor house sound which is a fair bit smoother, I have heard that the house sound is more pipe and slippers.........

igglebert:I find my Spendors every bit as detailed at low volumes as high (not trying to be pedantic David, just a matter of interpretation). No problem iggle, I know exactly what you mean. As I said, some people do equate that to a lack of detail - it's just down to the individual. I prefer a little bit of 'edge' to my music, others may not

Agree with meniscus and iggie - A5s don't have less detail than my older MA RS6s. They produce loads of detail with excellent instrument separation.

is the lack of bi amping, bi wiring with the A6 Spendors significant ?

In a word, no. A well designed crossover is a well designed crossover whether it's designed for single wired or bi-wired/amp'd.

I also agree with the other Spendor users that I find no issue listening at low volumes and my personal experience with the A6 is certainly not what I would consider 'smooth'. In my set up, they are fast, dynamic speakers with great pitch definition in the bass. The midrange is also very a strong point - in fact I think the best thing I can say about them is that they sound like a full(ish) range single driver speaker.
