Okay so I just bought a Yamaha 763 from Richer Sounds for 300, and i connected up my Playstation 3 up via HDMI, and also my Freeview box via a scart to composite lead. Then a HDMI lead from the reciever into my TV. The problem is that to get video from my freeview i need to connect up a compsite lead from the reciever to the TV rather than it just going though the HDMI lead. I have went in the setup and turned on the Video conversion on, but yet i still need to use a composite lead to get video out of the freeview.

does anybody know how to fix this?

I have the 863 not the 763, but I assume the setup is the same

1) select hdmi channel on your tv

2)select the correct input mode on your amp (eg. tv/ctv) then press the setup button on the remote

3)go into manual setup and select i/o port assignments

4)make sure the correct video input (eg comp 2) and sound input (eg. optical 3) is set up

5)save and exit menu

6)select the input mode (eg.dtv/ctv) and you should get the freeview picture and sound

Once you have this, then you can go back into options and set video upscaling to 1080p or whatever you choose.

Just wondering, how did you get your OSD on via HDMI? The only way i have managed was though a composite lead.

I don't know the 763 but i know certain yamaha amps don't support OSD via HDMI. Can't remember which ones.

If by OSD you mean the yammy settup menu, just change the telly channel to hdmi, connect the amp to the telly via a 1.3 compliant hdmi cable and press the setup button on the remote and hey presto.

Hmmm, i just tried that, but unfortunatly it does not seem to work, the menu only comes up is when it is connected up with a single composite lead. And again i cannot seem to get the conversion to work.

mm. I would check the hdmi cable is plugged in the correct ports (hhmdi out on amp and hdmi in 1 on tv), check hdmi cable is 1.3 compliant (not dvi converted). check hdmi settings. try factory re-setting the amp (just in case ).

well the HDMI cables are plugged in corectly because i can get the playstation to work with both the surround sound and with the TV.By set up botton am i right in thinking that you mean the 'SET MENU' bitton? because when i press that i get the menu, but only through composite.

Yes thats exactly what I meant. Out of the box i connected my 863 via hdmi to my tv and hit the setup menu botton and got the menu up no probs. If you dont mind possibly wasting a few minutes re-inputing your settings and running the audo setup routine again - try doing a factory re-set in case you accidentally changed something. Then just connect the amp to the tv (nothing else) and try experimenting until you get the menu up.

Well i just unpluged everything but the HDMI cable to the TV and reset it to factory setting. Then i turned it back on but still no menu with HDMI.I wonder if the 763 cannot output the menu with HDMI. Can anybody from the WHF team or somebody with a 763 tell me if you managed to the the sutup menu on via HDMI please. And thanks for your help fisty1967

It seems the 763 doesn't support it, i had the same issue with my RXV1600. Try by changing "VIDEO CONV" to off.

Nope, when i change the volume it only comes up on the receiver rather than the TV. And also what would turning the video conversion to off do?

if i remember correctly with my 1600 it helped turning it off but unfortunately i don't have the manual for the 1600 anymore to check why that was. I scanned thru the manual of the 763 and can't find any explanation. I guess the 763 doesn't support OSD via HDMI. If it's ok with component then i'm sure you doing the set up correctly and you've reset to factory settings so it seems you snookered.

What does this mean, i thought that it unscaled analog inputs.

Picture18k.png

does this mean that i will need more than just an HDMI cable running from the AV reciever to the TV?

Hi, I have a 763, connected with sky+HD & BD30 to the 2 No HDMI ins, to a sony 46V3000, all connected by 1.3a compliant QED HDMI's.

I can confirm when i press "set menu" when it is in receiver mode. the OSD shows on the screen via HDMI.

Make sure the slide switch on the right hand side is set to amp.

Hope this helps.

Mark,

Tom said that when he pressed SET MENU the menu appeared on the amp screen but not on the TV, so that must mean he has the slide in the correct position if it appears on the amp face.

The manual for the 763 says the amp should be connected to the tv via hdmi out port. It also says that pressing the setup button gets the osd menu on the monitor/tv.

Are you absolutely sure the hdmi cable is 1.3a ?. Might be worth trying a different cable.

Do you need to tell it to output it via HDMI or will it do it automaticaly?

In option menu / display set/ you can schange the osd display settings.
Also, in option menu / video set / you can change the hdmi resolution and upscaling options.
Another thought, check that the output resolution on the hdmi doesnt exceed what your tv is capable of.

Okay, something is evidently a bit temperamental, because I
fiddled with the HDMI cable a bit and it started to work, then I turned the AV receiver
off and when I turned it back on I could not get a picture, so again I fiddled
with the cable and it is now working. But I am unsure about what is not working
properly, is the TV, AV receiver or just the HDMI cable?

Start with easiest first. Swap HDMI cable and see if you have same problem with new cable. What HDMI cable are you using?
