Afternoon,,,,,

I am currently building a system based around the Techincs suv 40 amp.....which is nearly 25 years old. I am building a system that won't be upgraded once complete. I have various bits of kit but as you can see from my bio this is where I am at for my main music system and so the last piece of the puzzle is nearly there. I have had various combo's over the last ten years and due to room constraints, children e.t.c most have know been tested and discounted or broken by said children.I love music and I have been fascinated with HiFI since I was 8 years old when I got my first seperates system. This system is my 20 year keeper as long as there are no breakdowns, which I would deal with as and when.

So to go with the Technics amp I have a marantz cd 48 as transport connected to a Beresford Caiman, which I also feed Spotify Premium. I use a reasonable £5 m speaker cable.

So I would very much appreciate some input and suggestions which speakers I use to complete this setup.

Ok my budget is not massive and stands @ £400 and no more...........new or reliable second hand.

Standmount/ Bookshelf........for the time being the speakers have to go on shelves close to a wall. no compromises. to many near misses and accidents. I don't mind using port bungs if required because my room does not like boomy bass at all. Also speaker can be no more than 21cm wide.

So the sound I am after is a traditional sound that covers as many bases as possible. I listen in general to electronic, classical and prog. I also love Jazz and female vocals. I am after a sound I just get lost in.

Speakers I have already discounted include. MA RX 1 & 2, B & W 685, Acaydis DM1, MA BX2.

I am interested in going for an audition of the new Castle Knight 1 & 2.........and maybe checking out the Kef q100 but unsure as I don't know that much about KEF's sound.....Maybe the new Jazzed up version of the aviano 1 xr.

Thanks for taking the time to read this I am sure with some help I will achieve my goal.

I'm not familiar with Technics stuff, so I would suggest Wharfedale speakers. I know from personal experience, they are sooooo easy to system match and sound great.

Again, like Technics I've not heard Castle speakers, so can't offer a

or

.

You might pick some Spendor S3e speakers up for under £500 by now - great at the price.

thanks guys for you suggestions.....

I am considering Dali as an option, I had a taster when I owned the 2.8 suite floorstanders which had to go for various reasons. Also I do like the spendor sound but didn't think there would be any thing in my price range.......but who knows.

I am mainly after a speaker that I forget is there.........and just nod my head to the tunes.......
