Hi

Im looking to get a new TV, I have looked at two both 46" and was wondering if anybody had any experience with these tv's. First one is the Sony 46EX503 and the other is the Samsung LE46C750. I can get both for around the £700 mark which is a pretty good price for the spec. Any opinions or other suggestions?

If you can hold fire for a while, the new 2011 models, the European launches of which we've been covering in news, are getting near to the shops.

Albeit at initially higher prices than end of line 2010 stock.

I can't comment on either of the models mentioned in the original post, but there's certainly some logic in picking up a bargain right now.

Then again, as Andrew says, 2011 models will imminently be launched, potentially offering worthwhile improvements over 2010 ranges (especially if technology trickles down from high end televisions to more affordable sets).

Presumably you've scoured the net for reviews of the displays you're looking at?

Tough call...

Though I don't think there are major shortages of stock on many of the end of line sets out there, so the bargains may get even better when the new ones arrive and the old ones really really must be shifted.

It's a calculated risk, agreed...

I have scoured the interweb and have found user reviews that were good. Think I'll hold fire for a month or so and see if 2010 stock gets even cheaper, or see what the new models are like. Thanks for the advice

Hi there,

I purchased the LE46C750 for around 770 and it's a pretty good TV. I did notice that the 50" VT20 was on sale last week around 1K but it seems to have sold out now.

Anyway, as I did go ahead with the Samsung I'm quite pleased with my buy. It's not 100% but I guess you'd expect some faults with an LCD. I haven't noticed it so much recently but on fast moving scenes, drag or a ghosting effect is present. Maybe I picked up on it in the beginning as it was new and I was constantly checking the PQ. You can manually set the motion flow which I use at 10 on the top bar and somewhere between 4 and 6 on the bottom bar. One's blur and the other judder but I can't remember which way round. (Think judder is the bottom.) Movies made with CG can sometimes be watched on the smooth setting like Tron for example.

I haven't bothered with a 3D blu ray player as there are not that many movies but I recently got sky with the 3D channel so finally the TV has a purpose. My wife wanted 3D I wanted a big plasma so I thought this was a comprimise. She's not watched anyhting in 3D so far and we've had it for 4 months.

If I was to buy all over again, I'm pretty sure I would go for a plasma.

Hope that helps a little if you're still in the market.
