I’ve been an vinyl analogue junkey since I got into hi-fi in the mid 70’s, helping my brother sort out his hi-fi, that he’d intended to take home to Oz which ended up at our parents. Now I’ve inherited it and tried adding a CD player but instead of enjoying my CD’s all I’ve got is hum. Strangely to me the minimal noise at maximum amplifier volume, increases exponentially when the interconnects are plugged into the CD player, when its switched off, taking on a deeper tone when its switched on. I’ve tried changing the player and interconnects, Richer Sounds says there is nothing wrong with the original, they could only suggest trying a different make, though quite what difference that would make I can’t imagine.

Serendipity has it by pure chance I’ve solved my hi-fi hum problem purely by accident.
The solution had been staring me in the face all along.
The amp is an old one with no CD input just Tuner; Extra {Tape}; Turntable: Moving Magnet Pickup; Crystal Pickup. I’d only used Tuner and Extra giving copious quantity of hum.
Now I accidentally used the Crystal pickup input and no hum, go figure.
