Hi, I am looking for some help setting up my system as I seem to have got lost in the maze of connections etc.

Don't laugh at my system lol, it was built on a budget (under £800 for the lot) so I know it is going to be average but it's all I could afford and is so much better then my old tosh 28" crt

The components are :

Philips 42PFP5532D 42in Plasma
Philips HTS3357 Home theatre system (HDMI and upscaling)
Sky + Box
Toshiba SD-26VBSB Video/DVD combi (I can't face replacing over 1000 videos right now)

I will also be adding a 40gig PS3 in the next few weeks

I just want to give the system the best chance of looking as sounding as good as it can with the surround working with the tv as well as the dvd (at the moment it only works through the dvd player - blame the installers, I am disabled so could not do it myself)

I have put together this plan of all the inputs on everything bar the PS3 as I have no idea what connections it has.

Any help with be greatly appreciated.

To be honest if you're getting a PS3 then you need to ditch the Philips home theatre it simply doesn't offer the connections you need to make a good home cinema system. replace it with a mulichannel receiver such as the Onkyo TX-SR 605.

You could then use 2 HDMI leads for the PS3 one from the PS3 to the amp and the other from the amp to the TV. The sky+ box could be connected using a scart lead to the TV and an optical cable to the amp. And then the DVD/video combi could again be scarted to the TV and an audio lead to the amp.

I know this means spending anoth £400.00 but it's your best option and not only will it future proof your system, you will also reap the benefits of HI Def pictures and sound from the PS3.
