Hi,

After having huge pieces of hi fi equipment for many years i've decided to try and make my set-up as small as possible as I move around a lot.

I've recently replaced my Numark (massive deck) with a RP1 turntable which I'm very happy with, however I also want rid of my huge Marantz PM4200 Integrated Amplifier.

I'm looking for either a small an integrated amp as possible, that will power my turntable or a recomendation for powered speakers and a small form factor pre-amp, I will also need one extra "line in" aside from the turntable so I can plug a cable with a 3.5mm jack on the end in and plug it into either a laptop or a walkman etc

Unless there is another way to do this.

My budget for either the amp or speakers + pre-amp is £350

Any and all help would be appreciated, I work in I.T but am mostly clueless with Hi-Fi set-ups.

Also, I like these: KRK Rokit RP5, would they work with my turntable?

Many Thanks

Liam

The Brio-R and virtually any compedent speaker is going to cost way more than £350.

Any proper phono preamp with switching and volume is likely to be way too expensive also. Frankly the simple answer is something like a Denon PMA720 and a nice pair of standmount speakers from Richers. Not much real choice I'm afraid, just pick a pair of speakers that you like the sound of.

If you go this route you could upgrade to a pair of active speakers, though this would stretch the budget unless you were to buy something like a pair of Diamonds now, and proper actives ar a later date.

The nearest you can get using powered speakers would be the Audioengine A5+ or the Q Acoustics BT3. Both offer a couple of inputs, but most importantly, volume control by way of a supplied remote. You will of course require a phono stage for your RP1.

Both models cost about £350 and a phono stage, a Cambridge 551 is about £69. Can't think of any way to do this cheaper.

There are a couple of pre 'R' Brio amps on fleBay, also Wharfdale Diamonds, that will fit the budget?

These could be worth a look: http://www.whathifi.com/news/eltax-introduces-bluetooth-version-monitor-3-speakers

They are powered rather than active, but they recently got a very good review in another magazine and the speakers on which they are based (the Monitor IIIs) always offered a lot more than they promised in my experience. Add a phono stage such as the Cambridge Audio one, and you could have a very effective and compact set-up for relatively small outlay.
