Hi,

I'm kind of new with all the hifi / home cinema products so I don't have huge standards. I'm looking for a home theater system which can do the following:

- Play the sound of movies, music and games all as good as possible. Music espescially.
- Has an AV receiver with at least 3 hdmi inputs.
- Sync audio and video so the movies don't appear weird
- I'd like a good ( budget ) cd player

I came up with something I can afford and what all sounds good in the reviews, but I have no idea if these parts will work well together. This is what I came up with:

AV receiver: Denon AVR-1910 or Pioneer VSX-919AH
Speakers: Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 ( x 4 )
Center Speaker:Wharfedale Diamond CM
Subwoofer: Wharfedale Diamond 10 SX-SUB
CD Player: Marantz CD5003

Would this be a good setup, with one of the two AV receivers? And is it a bad idea to connect the Marantz CD5003 to an AV reveiver?

Then one more newbie question. If I'd buy this setup, then which cables would I need to get to connect it all?

Thanks in advance!

Greetz,
Renny

If it makes a difference, I've got a Philips 7404 42'' full hd lcd tv and the devices I'd like to connect to the av receiver are:
- Playstation 3
- Xbox360
- Sony bdp-s550b blu-ray player
- Iphone and Ipod
- Macbook Pro with optical out
- ( optional, not necessary ) USB stick or USB external hard drive

Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty sure the Denon would be a great match with the Wharfedales. I'm not so keen on Pioneer but that is usually because I think their gear is vastly overpriced compared to similar spec'd kit.

Most, if not all amps have lip-sync delay compensation, which can be manually applied. HDMI v1.3 introduced auto-lip sync so will work between compatible HDMI v1.3 devices.

I don't understand what you mean by a it being a bad idea to connect the CD player. The CD player needs an amp, so unless you're going to shell out on an integrated hifi amp and connect the two amps via pre-out, then the Denon, which sounds pretty good musically by all accounts should be fine. Before splashing out on a CD player, have you considered using your BD player as a compromise for CD and maybe going with a streaming solution e.g. Squeezebox? Your Iphone could be used as a controller, which works brilliantly and is very impressive. Since buying a Squeezebox, I rarely use CD and am more than happy with my Squeezebox connected to my ageing Denon receiver. I did use an Arcam Hifi system connected via pre-out but have since downsized. I would also consider second hand as CD isn't as popular as it once was. Vinyl has almost disappeared and now DJ decks are almost worthless second hand. I can see CD going the same way......eventually (IMHO!!!!).

I presume the Pioneer has USB, the Denon doesn't. I know that the Marantz SR6003 and it works very well by all accounts. It's obviously more expensive than the two you've picked out but may be available cheaper once the SR6004 launches.
