Looking for some advice I bought a Roksan Caspian CD player around 8 months ago. I now have around 12 CDs that skip or stop and say no disc on different tracks net not playable, I have replaced most of the CDs with new and they played fine. I still have the CDs that will not play in the other room. I was surprised when I heard my daughter playindvthem a my £100 blu ray player through a dac and they all play fine. I tried them all again on the Roksan and same problem. I have now played them all in the car and their also playing fine. Is there a problem with my Roksan or does it have a more delicate laser.

any advise appreciated

Give the CD player a clean with a cleaning CD first, there cheap enough and also if this does not work try duplicating the CD on a Pc to see if this works.

Some cd players are fussier than others esp. the more expensive ones, I know Cyrus had a problem a few years ago with some of theirs. I have found Marantz to be a bit picky also. I had a used cd that would skip on my Marantz but plays fine on my computer.

Try the cd lens cleaner could just be a bit of dust.

I have not come across a well made CD on the market that does not play on the Caspian CD player. However, there have been some instances where our customers have had intermittent skipping or No disc displayed. We have brought in their CD's and their CD players and found the reason for skipping or stopping at certain tracks, has been due to the condition of the CD's themselves. Some CDs were of poor recorded quality with very high block error ratios, others had finger print marks, scratches etc…On other occasions, the laser heads had dust or pet hairs on them and worked fine after a short clean up.

The high end CD players are more sensitive to these issues and playability is affected by the recorded material or the quality and condition of the CDs being played or the environment where dust or smoke can reduce the pick up sensitivity.

I have an Audiolab 8200CD that's only a few months old, and there are at least half a dozen, brand new, CDs that it has problems with - it either suddenly stops playing, goes into permanent pause, or skips; this, so far, is always near the end of the discs. The running time doesn't seem to be an issue, as it will stop on a 60 minute disc, but play a 70 minute one to the end!

The CDs play fine on my computer, which I believe has been error checking etc. But annoying - when I play a new disc I'm not sure it's going to get to the end!
