Hi All,

I finally made my purchase decision and bought myself a pz85b 42 inch. an Onkyo 606 and a set of mordant short alumni speakers.

Im going to get Sky hd and a Ps3( for blu-ray) I have been reading around the net and cant get a clear understanding of connecting the audio of these devices into the Onkyo. Ideally i just want to use HDMI leads as its neater and from what i can tell better quality is this correct? or do i need optical's from both the sky hd and ps3 to get the best quality 5.1+ ( going to get a center speaker for 6.1 eventually) sound. Also any other general tips for this setup. Im really excited about wiring it up all up but im a total begginner to this stuff.

Any help appreciated thank )

I'm not sure how many hdmi inputs the 606 has but you will need hdmi from screen to 606. Hdmi from PS3 to 606 and that will give you sound and vision with your bluray discs. Hdmi from 606 to Sky HD and digital optical as well (Sky doesn't broadcast surround sound through hdmi). That's it. Obviously speaker cable from speakers to the relevant places on your 606 too. If you want to listen to the radio through this system, you could also add a pair of stereo interconnects from 606 to Sky HD and listen to the radio from there - I do and it's pretty good.

Why do i need stereo interconnect if i have optical out?

Does ps3 do the audio down the hdmi as well? i couldnt find a clear answer on this anywhere.

You don't need it. It just might give you a better stereo sound but you don't "need" it.

No, not at all. It's just a preference thing for me. I listen to the radio from Sky HD through my stereo amp but before I listened through my receiver - I just think that analogue cables give a better stereo sort of sound when just listening through the front two. It's not a big thing though.
