Hi Guys

I am sure this is trivial but if you dont know something you need to ask.

I am looking to put a Yamaha Z7 into my system - I will be looking to wire a Blu Ray and Freeview box via HDMI to the Yamaha then to my Pioneer LX5090.

My Question is to get the most from the TV/ Source I have the drive option different for each input.

If I wire direct from the amp then I will only be using 1 input on the plasma and can only have one drive option selected.

Is it best to pick one drive option and be done with it or wire the freeview to the tv separate - obviously I want the HD sound from the Blu Ray.

The freeview box already upscales to 1080p and does a bloody good job - hence why i would wire this one direct.

Thanks for your help

Sounds like you've answered your own question to be honest

Seriously, ultimately I don't think anyone can decide this for you - try it out using the Freeview box on the same drive setting and, if you think it still looks as good, you can hook everything through the amp and enjoy the benefit of single source switching. If on the other hand, you much prefer the Freeview box with the other drive setting, then stick with hooking it direct into the TV. Because you can presumably still connect the Freeview box into the amp via optical / RCA phono for sound, you're in no way compelled to connect it via HDMI into the amp.

Hello mate

Thanks for the response, you are probably right about me answering my own question lol.

I was hoping to hear from someone with a similar setup with their advice / findings - or the pro's advice. When I first setup the Pioneer it did make quite a difference changing the drive settings, especially for Blu Ray.

The upscaling in the Z7 is supposed to be awesome, so would like to use it ideally.

I will post my results to help any others with a similar combo!!

Feel free to add more advice anyone else please

Thanks

Thinking about it, another option could be something like a Harmony Logitech remote, which you could use to program a macro in which would automatically change the drive setting dependent on whether you were watching Freeview or Blu-Ray.

That way, you could still hook everything up through the amp and have the drive setting changed automatically whenever you switched from watching Freeview to Blu-Ray and vice versa.
