I'm a newbie and need some help.

My trusty plasma only has 1 HDMI connection.

I want to know if a product like the Yamaha DSP-AX863SE will allow me to plug my "Sky TV", and DVD Recorder into it and them into my TV to allow me HDMI quality?

Am i confused about what the Yamaha will offer?

Please, be gentle

Yes any AV receiver with HDMI will be able to switch the sources and on some models they'll be able to process the audio. Sky HD requiries an additional digital optical cable too. Obviously if you don't need surround sound, you could simply buy a hdmi switch such as the Oppo HM31 (3 in/1 out) but to be honest, you would get more benefts other than simply hdmi switching with a new receiver (dependent on model, obviously) such as surround sound (inc. new hd audio formats from a compatible bluray or hddvd player), video upconversion etc. etc. If switching is your only requirement, you could get a cheaper receiver than the 763 but at the current price I think that would be a mistake as it seems to be about the best value 'quality' receiver out there at the moment.

Send all your inputs through the amp and it will simplify the whole experience. ÿBetter still, invest in a Harmony One remote and program it to switch between sources.
