Problem. I'm bored feckless with all the music I've got at the moment and need some recommendations from people for new stuff to try.

I mostly listen to rock/metal type stuff but recently I've started to chill out a bit (must be getting old) listening to a bit of Joe Bonamassa, Imelda May and Led Zeppelin but basically I'm open to suggestions/recommendations anyone has for what they really enjoy or regard as a good listen.

All comments are welcome and appreciated.

When looking for "inspiration" I look on www.allmusic.com.

Use the search function to find one of your favourite bands and in the biography it will list "similar artists".

Then go to myspace or youtube and have a listen to these bands until you find one you like.

For guitar music I am listening to a lot of Buffalo Tom and Gaslight Anthem at the moment.

Happy hunting.

The list here could be endless
What did you grow up listening to or roughly what's your age.
Look on what people are listening to on here.

If your new into Led Zep early 70s then try Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, Jethro Tull. Deep Purple for starters.

Spotify is the way forward here. A great place to hear stuff you fancy trying before you buy it. I use Spotify to try, and Amazon to buy. Works well, although not everything is on Spotify so its worth bookmarking YouTube and MySpace as well.

You're in luck. Rock/Metal is my specialty.

It would be remiss of me not to mention Opeth, my favourite band. Songs vary from very heavy and fast with death metal type vocals, to beutiful acoustic passages with actual singing, and everything in between..... Awesome band.

Heard half of Mastodon`s new album called `Crack The Skye` last night and I thought it sounded good! Ordered it for my sons birthday next month and when I went into his room to chat to him yesterday evening the little blighter had already downloaded the whole album onto his laptop! Oh well.

Other recommendations - re-issue of the month is a three disc remastering of Black Sabbath`s `Paranoid`.

Making waves in the prog world over the last few months has been Pendragon`s "Pure" album. It`s a lot more of a modern style than usual from this band and it is very good indeed. The first track in particular is a cracker.

Any of the first five studio albums by a band called Mostly Autumn shouldn`t disappoint.

If you`re really starting to get into more `relaxing` music then a German ethereal/folk band called Elane might be worth a try. Their most recent album is very nice indeed and it`s called "The Silver Falls".

How about a bit of AOR? Still Rock but a bit smoother round the edges. "Revelation" by Journey must have got Steve Perry wishing he was still in the band. Amazingly Journey have just this week been confirmed for Download this summer!

On the darker side but not too fast so you can listen to it in an armchair is My Dying Bride. They have a new album out which I haven`t heard yet but I can recommend "Like Gods of the Sun", "Turn Loose The Swans" and "Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light".

If you want to be really adventurous you may find Sarah Brightman`s last studio album "Symphony" surprisingly likeable. Hints of Nightwish and a duet with non other than Paul Stanley(!) make this my recommendation of the week!

Try some soundtracks for size, such as American Beauty (Thomas Newman)

and The Dark Night (Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard)

and Filmtales by Paul Leonard-Morgan who has written for film and TV

All are on itunes and Amazon so you can try excerpts before you buy. There is a ton of fantastic music out there hidden because it was originally written for films or the TV.

You should have a listen to 'And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead'. I recommend their 'Sources, Tags and Codes' and 'Madonna' albums. A bit mellower 'Arcade Fire' and for funny time sigs and general craziness' The Mars Volta'.

Foe something completely different you should try my favourite country artist John Prine. His first album(self titled) is astounding. Every one should own a copy!!
