Guys, my old Pioneer all in one package DVD player + 5.1 surround system is playing up with the centre channel cutting out periodically - I think some soldering or worse is required and I have zero skills at this. So I face a repair charge. However, since I mainly use a separate blu-ray player as a transport, I'm wondering about just getting a sub £200 5.1 receiver - there seem to be a few to choose from (on Amazon) by Denon etc.

Quick question - my Pionner "all in one" came with tiny little satellite speakers, a slightly larger centre, and a decent sub. Would I be able to use those speakers with a 5.1 receiver or would the receiver be too powerful for them. Will the sound be crap? The little Pioneer all in one was actually pretty good in the sound Dept and at the time got very good reviews in WHF, but I'm wondering if the little speakers are somehow 'tuned' to the Pioneer system and whether a separate AV receiver like this one:-

will blow my little speakers?

You should be OK, except maybe with the sub where the separate AV amp will expect it to be active and yours from an all in one system will perhaps be passive?

The spekers shouldn't blow, (I once ran a Marantz mid range receiver with some satellite speakers that came with an Hitachi TV), as long as you don't wind the receiver volume right up.
