help for newbie trying to set up new system

hi can any1 pease help me out here, im just new to this so please have patience, ive just purchased a bd50 blue ray player but im strugling to get pic on tv, i thought it would be pretty simple to set up but somhow i canr seem to get pic on tv i have got hdmi out of bd player goint to dvd in on my amp and monitor out hdmi on amp goint to hdmi in on tv ive went through all av chennels on tv but to no avail the only way i can get pic is if i go hdmi out bd50 to hdmi in tv, i take im doing somthing wrong with my amp can any1 please help

This is possibly a settings issue - which amp do you have and then owners of that amp can help you. (In fact probably best to list all your components).

Simple question to eliminate all possibilities - is the amp turned on while you try to watch the picture?

If so, as the prof says, list all your equipment and owners of these can then assist better.
