Help bought a Sony DAV-IS50 no surround sound on satilite channel.

Please help !!!

I am trying to connect :

1. TV Pioneer Plasma

2.Sony DAV-IS50

3.Sky + Box

I have connected it up by scart from sky box to tv ,optical lead from sky box to sony unit ,also have hdmi lead from sony unit to tv

It all works fine on DVDs i get surround sound in all speakers ,however when i switch to sky i can not get the back speakers or middle speakers to work only the front left and front right work no 5.1

Please help a very confused newbie

I presume you're watching a source which is being broadcast in Dolby Digital - a movie, for example? ÿHave you selected Optical out and Dolby Digital in the 'Sound' menu of the Sky box? ÿAlthough I don't have first-hand knowledge of your system, I would imagine that you can also select 'Pro Logic' to create pseudo surround sound from a stereo broadcast. ÿGood luck!

Not all programmes are broadcast in surround sound, but there's a couple of things you can do to make sure you make the most of those that are:

Make sure the Sky+ box is set to output Dolby D via its optical output - it's in the sound menu.

Set the Sony up so the default sound mode is Dolby Pro-Logic - that way it will also extract any surround information buried in the soundtracks of older programmes.

Thanx guys there was no on screen set up for the prologic so had to do on the lcd front of the player works fine now phew !!! thought it was a lead problem
