hi, i know most directors use 16:9 video ratios letterbox style, but guillermo del toro has got it spot on. video fills my 50" plasma in spectacular style, and bluray image is amazing and hellboy 2 has one of the best pictures and sound i have heard. its a shame all large screen owners have to put up with it. why cant all blurays be recorded like this and every lcd and plasma owners would be very happy, or am i missing something out?

You're only missing out directors who want to make their film perfect for cinema at 2.35:1 aspect ratio. If you can convince all of them of your vision for standard home cinema, you'll be set.

I think you'll find most directors actually use 1.85:1, which is not 16:9, although it's close enough when it comes to reformatting the picture for wide-screen TVs!
