Heed obelisk ps

Im interested in a second hand obelisk ps. The reviews ive read used a heed preamp and powersupply. Such as this review:

Im only interested in the amp. My planned setup is to play music from the computer to a dac to the amp and to the loudspeakers. The lack of a physical volume control doesn´t bother me, but other than that would that be a ok setup? is there any reason why i should need a preamp?

Sorry to nag but I´d really like someones opinion on if its a good idea without the preamp?
The Dac has an output of 2.25 volts RMS. Sounds like alot? is this ok for this amp?
