How do the HD600's compare to the 650's?

Anybody had experience with these?

I would also be interested in knowing what the differences between the two, and if one set is better than another, considering the similar price.

I would also be interested in knowing what the differences between the two, and if one set is better than another, considering the similar price.

Firstly the price gap is stretching and is now around £100.

I actually listened to the 600`s and the 650`s yesterday. I was trying out the Project Headbox with my Sennheiser 590`s and I couldn`t hear much difference to the sound. Maybe a smidgeon but not enough to buy the amp. (Took it home and tested on my gear with the same result so I returned it today.)Then I tried it with some 600`s which were already run-in and I did then hear a discernable difference. Next up were the 650`s which did sound very good but they were straight out of the box and hadn`t been run-in which gave the 600`s a slight advantage. I shall be going back (not sure when) and the salesman said that if I give him enough warning he`ll run-in the 650`s before I arrive.

So, after initially thinking I`d go for a headphone amp first (the Project meaning a fairly low outlay for an upgrade) I have now decided to plough my money into new headphones and possibly add a headphone amp later.

But which headphones? Not sure. If I move fast I can get the 600`s for £125 cheaper than the 650`s. The 600`s were very comfortable, more so than the 650`s but then again they had been broken in so again in that sense had an advantage over the 650`s. One other good thing about both sets was that after getting the salesman to try them on and with me listening as an outsider they both leaked less noise than my current 590`s which for me is a very good thing as I often get in trouble at home when others are trying to read/watch tv in the same room.

Not sure if any of the above will help much but that`s where I`m at at the moment.

And then there`s the Grado`s to audition. Decisions, decisions.

That wallpaper has to go!

I have the same headphones.

They sound great.

Only the stupid factor of it is why backsite is open.

They sound realy like a loudspeaker without a kabinet, part of the noice is deleted because the noice coming out of the back.

In anti fase so to speak.

They sound realy mutch better when you partly taped the back of head shelf.

Try to lap over your hands when you are lissening, you will hear that it sounds mutch better.

The sound is more warm with more bass, just like the sound of byerdynamics headphones.

That the reason why some prfer byerdynamic headphones over sennheiser.

I will tape them in time for sure,

Just noticed that as well, massive price hike. Well after my initial google searches I thought they retailed for about the same price, 600 for £170 and £179 for the 650's but im guessing the 650's are the better in the sense that they are higher up in the Sennheiser range.

Matengawhat, have you had much luck tube rolling? I've just ordered some cleaning fluid to clean the pins on my M8161's because I was getting a little interferrience. But on closer inspection I noticed the metal ring located at the top of the bulb (held up by two vertical pins) one of the pins was not attached to the ring, unlike inside the other valve, have any of your tubes got this problem?

matthewpiano:Must admit, I have Sennheiser HD595s and Beyer Dynamic DT770PROs and I MUCH prefer the Beyers. Warmer, more musical, and very atmospheric. Quite a wonderful listening experience.

I still need to listen to the Denon AH-D7000s - they look awsome!

not that i've noticed - not tried the mullards yet - should really get them out and check - had a quick look to make sure not arrived broken but put them straight back in the boxes - still trying to burn in the russians although been using the project more at moment as been listening mainly in bed this week with the weather!

They do, but 'phones of that price are a definite luxury that I just can't justify at the moment, even as a huge fan of Denon gear.
