A question for Andrew / JD / Clare or whoever sees this first. I've been pondering over a decent set of headphones for a while now. Stipulation being 'Closed back' and 'Over ear'. Was thinking of the Alessandro MS1s which are based on the Grado SR60i's. The price guide in the mag show the SR60i as being 'Closed back'. However, from a thread I was on yesterday people are saying they are in fact 'Open'.

Is the wrong box ticked in the mags price guide?

The SR60is certainly are open-backed. The wrong box was ticked, the correct box will be ticked and the correct ear clipped.

Thanks for that Simon. I'm actually a bit sad about it. There's not too many recommended 'Closed back' 'Over ear' phones around in the price range I'm prepared to pay.(sub £100). Will have to rethink my strategy on this.

In fact can find only 2 in the mags price guide, both 2 star rated. Anyone recommend anything matching the above criteria?

They are way under your budget, but the Sennheiser PX200s are closed back, comfy, over ear (as in not all around the ear, unless you have very small ears) and very pleasant to listen to.

The PX200 are a nice unit but not nearly as nice as the MS1, have you considered ant in ear phones if noise leakage is an issue to you, there are some nice Sure headphones for similar prices to the MS1 and better than the PX200 IMHO.

Thanks for that. I really have a problem getting on with 'in-ear' phones, just cannot get comfortable with them at all. Sound leakage will be a big issue with missus sitting not too far away from me (maybe I could move her chair). Will take a look at the Shure range, but at the moment the Sennheiser HD280Pro's are looking good. They've dropped off the mags price guide now but did have a very good review when tested. Certainly good enough to have a more serious look at them.
