HDMI version 1.3a vs 1.4

Hi guys, i'm thinking of purchasing the Sony S770 blu ray player which is 3d capable and supports HDMI version 1.4. However both my tv and Sony DH800 reciever only support version 1.3a. I only want to use the S770 for standard blu ray discs but am not sure if the player will work with my version 1.3a reciever. I'm guessing that the player would simply downscale to version 1.3a when watching standard 2d blu rays, and therefore i would only need to upgrade to a 3d capable 1.4 reciever when i intend to watch 3d blu rays??

HDMI is backwards compatible so will have no problems, 2D blu-rays will play as normal and 3d blu-rays will just play in 2D mode.

Incidentally side-by-side 3D, as used by Sky will work fine with a 1.3 receiver (providing u have a 3d tv of course).
