Is it really needed to spend lots on cables? Will a £10 cable be any worse than a £25 QED one?

It will be for a realtively budget blu ray set-up!

If you can i would suggest you try them both out and then decide which looks/sounds better to you.

Hi

Have a little search on this and other forums and your soon realise you've raised an on going debate that goes back to the beginning of HDMI leads. How can one lead transmitting 1s & 0s sound or look any difference/ better than any other??

Whether it's electronic quality, build quality or a combination of the two i don't know or care. All i will say is that i saw a difference in picture quality when i upgraded from the sky HD cable to Chords Supershield and then i could see a second, but smaller improvement, when i upgraded to the Chord Active (free when subscribing What hi-fi).

Would i pay £25 - £50 for a hdmi yes, would i pay the £115 RRP for the Chord Active no your moneys better spent on a clearer audio copper-line alpha power cable for £35 for your av amp, tv or both.

The funny thing about the 1s & 0s argument is that you could argue that digital cables for CD/DVD/SKY/VIRGIN/DACs etc all sound the same. DO THEY??

i honestly think this hdmi thing is total nonsense.

anyone who see's a difference is usually psychosomatic, I mean theyve spent

some ridiculous sum of money on a damn cable and do you really think they're gonna say

'nope no difference' no they aint, theyre gonna convince themselves it looks better

which it isnt

the very definition of binary is off or on, NOT really on , a bit on, not really on at all , that would be analogue and hence suceptible to quality issuse. Just buy the cheapest you can - provided its not over a significant distance

Again i appreciate your arguement and maybe its just down to build quality but there is a difference. I'm personelly have'nt noticed and sound difference but picture stability/clarity yes.

I'm assuming that you are not using bell wire to you speakers? I know we a talking analogue via speaker cable but electronically the current runs around the outside of any cable used so why is there an difference in sound?

You use your bean tins, bell wires and tin foil for inter-connectors and i'll use a well made product

L O L....But you know...you're absolutely right....millions are obssessed with all this nonsense...after all the signal is supposed to be digital yet we all get brainwashed into believing that we should be spending much more in order to notice what ultimately can only be construed as being very subtle improvements yet if we spent more time just enjoying what was on the screen instead of analysing every pixle and hair follicle up someone's nose I dare say no one would be bothered about such trivia and the same is true for the majority of people who have purchased Blu Ray Players up to around £300 and have displays up to around 42in...You don't need to spend more unless of course you're blessed with enough space and have a 106ins screen. For Joe average my advice is, unless you were born an Owl or an Eagle...go for something like a £5.00 ThatCable HDMI

I agree. Just go for the £5 ThatCable HDMI cable. There's no difference between this & my £60 HDMI cables. The HDMI cable thing is one of the biggest scams. check this article

bigboss:Hmmm.........interesting that my links & quotes were removed. I thought that I was not violating any rules by posting genuine tests carried out objectively.

They weren't deleted for any reason of content, but rather their sources, which were in contravention of House Rules. As is discussion of moderation.

I've been looking for information on HDMI cables online, and have come to the following conclusion based on the information I've got so far. I won't quote the sources I got the information from, to abide by house rules:
EDITED BY MODS - please do not repost previously deleted material
If you google for information regarding HDMI cable quality, there's a lot of information online to go through, before you plan to spend a fortune on HDMI cables.

Well gadget show ran a test. They are reputable. They found no difference at all, So what now lol

The bottomline is, for smaller lengths upto 4m, there's no difference between the cheaper & more expensive cables. If you're planning to buy long cables (10m or more), then buy from reputable (not necessarily expensive) manufacturers.

ok one easy way to solve this issue is to ask the WHF team as these are the people who do tests all the time with cable and see if there is a differencd on them. I have faith in their judgement so WHF team is there a difference in quality in sound and picture to a cheap hdmi and a expensive hdmi even over short distances? (starting from 1m say)
