Hi, am the proud owner of a Denon AVR 2311, arriving tommorrow hopefully. [:D]

Question, at the moment I have my HDMI cables going directly into my tv, so what is the benefit by plugging them into new amp then one feed into tv, apart from only one HDMI cable to TV, many thanks in advance to all who reply.

Most HDMI sources do not need additional digital audio cables so less cables to the amp as HDMI passes both audio and video. However, if you have Sky+HD you still need the digital audio cable i.e. optical or digi-coax.

Also, if you have a bluray player, you will get HD audio which can only be passed in digital form over HDMI.

Dermondo:
Thanks for clarification.

Is it better then to use scaler in amp and set sky hd box to auto or would there be any difference.

It depends entirely on the amp and the TV, try it and see which you prefer.

Experiment is the way to go then, will post results when completed.

Hi, well have my new amp somewhat set up.

I found that by using the scaler (1080p) in the denon 2311, results where better especially in the sd source.

Its a cracking machine though and hopefully i'll have many years of enjoyment, i'd been keen to ask other users about there settings etc and what they find most suitable.

Odd thing I have found is that for some reason I cant get dolby digital from sky hd programmes on the new amp and once I turn off the HDMI input it comes up but as you would imagine not picture.

You need to assign the optical/coaxial input to the HDMI input that your Sky box is connected to,

You need to assign the optical/coaxial input to the HDMI input that your Sky box is connected to,

In the input set up/assign -

Sat/CBL is assigned {HDMI3) and digital is set to {Opt1) which optical cable from sky box to amp, this seems right I think.

I've cracked it and heres what to do.

Menu -> Input Setup -> Input Assign
Goto the source your using for your Sky HD box (I've renamed mine to Sky)
HDMI - Should be the port your using (in my case HDMI3)
Digital - Coax1/2 (mine says Opt1 because I'm using optical)
Click return.

Then goto Input Mode ensure the first option is set to 'Digital' this should make it use the opt1 input all the time, this was what I had to do to stop it using the HDMI by default anyway,
