Hi guys,

I am in the process of completing my home theatre system and I was wondering how many HDMI cable will I need for connections?

I have an LCD TV, blu-ray player, HT amplifier, 5.1 speaker system. The HT will be used mainly to watch movies, TV shows and play cd (using the blu-ray player)

How important is a "good" HDMI cable in terms of quality of output? Thanks.

Karljohn,

1. You will need 2 HDMI cables, i.e. one running from your blu-ray player to the amp and another from the amp to your LCD TV.

2. Cables are a contentious topic on this forum. Some will say that cables don't make a difference while others will say they do. It is for you to decide if they make any noticeable difference to you.

I am personally convinced that good quality mains cables, speaker cables and HDMI cables do indeed make a difference.

I use 2 Chord Supershield HDMI cables and find them to be very good indeed, having compared them to the previous generation Chord Silver Plus and Van Den Hul HDMI flat, besides also some cheaper cables.

Do I need an optical cable when watching tv programs? (TV to Amp) Yes, assuming that your TV has an optical output, and you want sound from your TVs internal tuner to playback through your HT amp...

You only need a optical if you have sky+hd as you wont get Dolby over HDMI Virgin will accept HDMI dolby.
