Looking for a good HDD recorder for my parents to record programmes onto, something easy to use would be great, not bothered if it has freeview or not as they have a box already.

We have a Humax PVR 9200T which I think can record up to 100 hours of stuff. It's very easy to use. My wife says "Even a woman can use it" - it is very sensitive - we don't get digital in our area 'till 2012 but I pointed the arial to a distant transmitter and found it gets all the freeview channels with no problems.

It got a good score when What Hifi looked at it

The software is automatically updated from time to time through the arial

It's good on sound too - I've used it to record a number of radio concerts - and the playback through my hifi is great - the BBC record these concerts to a better quality than standard CD's

It may be updated by a different model now - If you shop around you can get a good price

The Humax is good, you might also want to consider the Topfield TF5810PVRt we've just tested (£300). It's a Freeview+ recorder, has a massive 500GB hard drive and eight-day programme guide. Full review here.

The Humax is terrific - bought one for my ancient in-laws and it's transformed their viewing pleasure! I have the Panasonic DMREX78, which has Freeview series record and has a DVD recorder also. Excellent, and easy to use.

I quess they may be about the age of me and the wife - think that's why we like it so much

Humax. Just about all my family has one as well as several people from work. Brilliant.

Looking forward to seeing the HD version at the show. Wonder if it'll have ethernet connectivity, DNLA, etc, etc.
