HD / upscaling and and old but good DVD player?

Hi

I've got a Pioneer 626 DVD player which is a quality machine which works perfectly but is about 8 years old.

When I finally get my 40 " ish HD plasma - how are DVDs going to look ? I keep reading about 'upscaling' DVD players but am sure my old box won't do this...

I guess when I get a Blu Ray player it won't be an issue but I don't want to get one yet until prices fall and there's more choice of hardware and movies.

Well, why don't you wait and try it out when your tv arrives? Set the player to RGB out with a quality scart and you may even get a decent enough pic to see you through.
Otherwise you could use a PS3, as this is what I will do eventually cos you can play some games too and a possible freeview harddrive software update on the way I heard so It could be a useful jack of all trades so to put it.
