Hello, I have been massively underwhelmed at teh quality of the SD picture on the panasonic best buys, TH37PX80 and the tx37lzd. My old CRt is miles better; sharper, clearer and far more natural. So i have decided to forgoe the pleasures of HD ready tellies for the time being. However, I have a toshiba HD DVD player and want to know if its worth keeping hold of. Will it produce a significantly better picture on a non HD telly?, and if so, whats the best way to connect it as my telly doesnt have a HDMI socket?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Sorry you will not be able to get HD on your CRT TV. You must have an HD ready or Full HD TV, be it pl;asma or LCD. I think you'll find if you go and audition a properly set up HD system (not currys or dixons and the like) you'll find they blow your CRT into touch. Go to a specialist HD shop.

The HD-DVD drive will work on your CRT, but you won't see any advantages of it over a standard budget DVD player. You don't say which player you have, so look to hook it up via (a) Component; (b) RGB Scart; (c) S-Video or (d) Composite. i.e. if you have component available on both your TV and the player, use this, otherwise, if you have RGB Scart on both use this, otherwise etc. etc.
