Hi Guys & Gals

I've just taken delivery of my new Denon 2500BT and hooked it up to my Denon 4308 amp, which powers Monitor Audio Silver RS8 fronts, RSLCR centre, 4 x RSFX side and rears and a RSW12 sub.

I rushed out and bought numerous bluray titles to witness the "new" sound only to find Dolby TrueHD only plays a 5.1 format.

Am I doing something fundamentally wrong? Is DTS Master Audio 7.1? Can anyone recommend a settinjg for either the amp or the transport to enable 7.1?

Confused.....

Thanks in advance

Cameron.

The new HD codecs don't necessarily mean you'll be getting 7.1 - the back of the box should tell you if a film is encoded in 7.1. If it doesn't say anything, assume it's 5.1.
What you are getting with the HD codecs (on most Blu-Rays anyway) is a much superior and more detailed soundtrack with no compression. It should therefore sound much better than the standard Dolby Digital / DTS 5.1 soundtrack, though may well still have the same number of channels.

You should find your amp has a DSP mode which can simulate 7.1 from 5.1 soundtracks. Have a look through the manual for this.

Thanks Prof I just assumed that the new codecs would be 7.1, seems a waste that these discs have all this space not to include a sound more like the enveloping cinema experience that surely a dedicated rear channel plus side channel should give you.
