I have a set of Q Acoustics 1010i speakers, a Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player and an Onkyo SR606 amp arriving anyday - can anyone advise the best way to connect my Blu-ray player to the amp for HD audio and the best connection from my amp to the Q Acoustics Sub-woofer. For the other speakers I have used QED silver anniversary cables.

Best way to connect your BD30 to your Onkyo is via HDMI - you'll need a 1.3 certified cable in order to bitstream the Dolby TrueHD / DTS HD Master Audio formats to the amp. I'd recommend the Chord HDMI 1.3 Silver Plus - an excellent cable that brings brilliant results. However, if that's more than you were thinking of paying, the QED Qunex HDMI-P cable is very good as well. Both are 1.3 certified.

Personally, I use a Chord Crimson subwoofer cable. I can't guarantee this would work best with your sub, but it certainly works well with my system.

Indeed, the Onkyo you have can act as an AV switcher, so you can plug all your video cables into it (excluding any Scart connections unfortunately), including the Blu-Ray player, then just have one HDMI cable hooking the amp up to the TV.

Im trying to get round the scart problem by converting scart to component which by the time it has been converted from scart to component and to progressive then upscaled it could be a mess, lol but i hold onto hope.

I wouldn't waste the money on the converter - I tried this and it looked as rough as a rough thing. Better to just go straight to your TV via Scart, or input into the receiver in S-video - the former will look best, and the latter won't look any worse that RGB-component-upconvert-upscale.

It's slightly too late for that im afraid as I have the converter already. I tried the scart into component conversion on my freeview which of course would be 576i to my pana plasma and it didnt look any better than scart (which by the way is still very good) but i was hoping it would be better for movement with say.. sport, when it is piped into an onkyo 606 and scaled to 720p. I guess the only way now is to try for myself although I feel Andrews advice maybe solid and this could be a waste of my time. But hey... gotta try!
I'l keep ya posted.
