I have a new Panasonic TH37PX80B arriving next week and would like to buy a home cinema / surround sound system to complement it. I dont know anything about these things and my budget is small, up to £250.

Please can someone advise as to what make and model I should be considering. I watch mainly SD Sky TV and some upscaled DVDs. no gaming consoles

many thanks in advance

That is a tight budget, your gonna have to get your self on ebay.

I know richer sounds have got a yamaha av receiver for £120 and then maybe some speakers on ebay.

What size is your room?

I managed to get hold of the LG902PB (which looking at the specs is the same as the TM Clare mentioned) with the exception that rather than 4 Tall Boys it has 2 and has 2 small speakers. I picked it up for about £270 I think at, comet but if you look around you'll probably find it cheaper. I've a small terraed house so don't have it up loud and its fines (don't think I gone beyond 10 on the volume counter! - too scared of disturbing the neighbours!!!)

Hi

Firstly thanks to all who have replied I appreciate it. The LG system sounds good and is in my budget so will research it further.

I forgot to mention that I do have a sony rdr-gx350 dvd recorder that does do 1080p upscaling. is it worth keeping this and building around it or better to buy the LG package ?

thanks

I'd keep the DVD recorder and use it with the LG system. I know you get a DVD player with the LG, but I think you'll be hard pushed to get a better 5.1 system for the money (new anyway). The recorder will still be useful for recording TV even if you don't use it as your main DVD player.
