Looking for a Universal remote and have narrowed it down to these 2, question is, is the 900 worth the extra £100+?? Is the only thing it actually gives you the RF capability?

I like he idea of being able to control my kit with the cabinet closed, but then I also like to see what the front of my amp says too. Any experience of how well the RF capability works and any other benefits of the 900 over the ONE?

I also think the 900 has "hard" buttons for red, green, blue & yellow as opposed to onscreen versions on the ONE?

Cheers

I have a 900. The other big difference between them is the lack of rgby colour buttons on the 'One'. The workaround is to have them on the touchscreen which is OK but not as good as having physical buttons. How much you use the rgby keys will depend on your kit.

The second advantage of the 900 is that the remote doesn't have to be pointing at your kit - i know it might seem obvious but, since it can take a few seconds for the remote to send its various commands to switch activities, this means that activity changes are more reliable (ie fewer missed commands). However, this is offset by the delay that the RF introduces meaning the remote doesn't feel as responsive. The RF range can be poor as well - i sometimes see the 'x' on the display which means a command hasn't been received.

On balance, if your kit is visible from your seating position and you're not a frequent user of the colour keys, then save your money and go for the One. If you have a Playstation there are deals to get the PS3 controller at a discount when you buy with a remote (from Logitech direct but others have matched it I think). The One also seems to get discounted more than the other remotes - sometimes down to £100 - at which price it's a really good deal.
