I bought a Harman Kardon MS 100 in late 2010 and now the display is just about unreadable. However, the South African agents say there are no spares available for this, as they are only legally required to keep spares for 7 years! This for an item that was introduced in 2009 for 500 pounds.

Does anyone know for how long this hifi was on sale? I found a YouTube video in French that appears to indicate it may have still been sold in Feb 2014

Seriously doubt you will find any spares for this now.

Some people think that's a long enough time.
I'm not one of those people.
I had a HK PM650 amp, perhaps because it was older, it was well made, never went wrong - and only cost half what you paid.
I sympathise with you, I wouldn't be happy, but it's often the way things are today.
I would point out to your friendly agent that, regardless of any legal requirement, some companies supply parts for decades.
(But then he knows that!).
