Any suggestions for a really good blu ray player that has excellent dvd upscaling, no extras required like wifi, i player etc, just good picture and sound. Thanks.

If you're not interested in frills or analogue performance, the Panasonic 120 is a very good call.

http://www.richersounds.com/product/blu-ray/panasonic/dmpbdt120/pana-dmpbdt120

Fast boot up and loading speed; reference HD audio-video performance (assuming you subscribe to the theory that all BDPs perform the same over HDMI); and near-reference upscaling (see this mini review: http://forums.hdtvtest.co.uk/index.php?PHPSESSID=1ed0cc6f907fd9c9be5c7170e55c0f6f&topic=7206.0).

The 120 can do some things you probably don't need, but there's no harm in having such functionality on-board, even if you've zero interest in "smart" features or 3D.

Otherwise, there's the Sony 185, which you might be able to track down for even less. What Hi-Fi review here:

I still hear good things about the Pioneer 55.

I have just bought a new Panny BDT130 for £99.95 which appears to have the same inners as the 230 just reviewed on this site( but has no wifi or miracast functions). It is a little beauty from my initial findings and has all the extras anyway.

Cheaper here:

Perhaps you can still get a price match? :?

Thanks Gel, add the £10 delivery and you're nearly there anyway. Plus I did take out the 5 year RS warranty for £9.99 which to me was a no brainer at that price.

Was that Milton Keynes?

I was originally going to get the 220 open boxed from MK but I read up on the 130 and saw the review on the 230 and plumped for the 130 because I didn't need wifi or Miracast.I was visiting family in Watford yesterday so I picked it up from there.
