Hi guys,

I have just got last week B&W CM8 paired with Rotel RCX -1500 and can't even turn it up with out cutting out( my old Technics hifi is louder haha) I have spoke to the shop owner and he said get another amp to attach to it but that means forking out about £700 and more space. I would like a good all in one system what will do the job (surely have to be one?) so i'm sending it back and going to get the CM5 speakrs with B&W stands but can anyone recomend a good all in one system that will be room filling I like it loud and quite basey I llistien to dance and house music. I hear the Manrantz M-CR603 is ment to be great and quite loud but not sure head in bits and want to get it right this time? can anyone help me please i really appreciate any feedback thanks D

P.S does anyone have and all in one system paird with CM5?

That doesn't sound right, especially considering the Rotel's power rating. Might it be a faulty unit? If the Rotel can't give you what you want the M-CR603 definitely won't.

I've heard the CM5s and CM8 with the Esoteric RZ-1 and they were very listenabe combinations, although I didn't test how loud they could go and it is probably above your budget (available in Europe but not the UK?)

With that budget I would advise you consider the AVI ADM9RSS speakers (£1400) used together with the matching AVI 10" subwoofer (£800). The AVI speakers already have the amplifiers built into them and are controlled by a remote control handset. All you need to do is add a source (they can be used with both digital and analogue sources).

This leaves £300 which is all the money you need to buy a good quality source nowadays. You have many options available to you such as regular CD players. Or your computer can also be used as a perfect high fidelity music source provided you use its digital output. Or you could use a streamer to play your own digital music files and/or play music from the internet using Spotify or internet radio stations. A secondhand Squeezebox Touch is a good value streamer but there are many others available.

Hope this helps. :)

Sounds like something's shorting. I'd tidy up your speaker cable ends, maybe turning them round just to facilitate having brand new, tidy connections.

Failing that, try some other cable (even if it's only cheap electrical flex from homebase) in case there's a break in your cable somewhere causing the short.

Thank you all for getting back will have a look at the at the spakers and amps can't thank you enough for your help. When speaking with the shop owner its because Rotel is high 100rms but the current is not very high and B&W speakers are current hungry he says, it's when the base kicks in the amp or speakers clipps thats why he said add another amp but i think that won't make the CM8 any louder as they don't seem to be able to take much more or will another amp work and make them go louder with out blowing them?. The man make the speaker cabes they have banana plugs on not just wire they was £90 alone think i got ripped off ha ha. I know the Marantz aint not very powerfull but its quite small and can always add an amp it will be powering the CM5 not CM8 so maybe a bit better?

Thanks D
