Hi,
I've got a PM6003 in a custom-made unit and want to add a Marantz tuner but as they are so big it will eat up the room at the top. It will sit on a CD6004 with just over an inch to the sides, no front on the unit, just enough at the back for the interconnects. Above, with a tuner in there as well, the front half of the amp would covered at a height of 35mm with the rear half going up more like 110mm (but also enclosed).
I know the official guidance is for 4-5 inches above an amp, but the PM6003 is not very powerful (45W per channel I think), and I probably won't use it at high volume very often. Will i get away with such tight clearances or will it power itself down the whole time? I can engineer some more space but it would be a lot of work.
Couple of other questions: I also didn't leave room for a plug to fit down the back of a shelf between the kit and the power socket (yes, I know, I really thought it through...) - is there any reason why I can't cut off the plugs and fit new ones in situ? Will it damage sound at all?
Finally, sorting out the cable mess - what's the minimum distance I should allow between data cables (speaker, interconnect, HDMI, aerial) and mains power cables? Can data cables be bunched together with impunity?
Thanks,
Chris
