Two weeks ago today we had 20 inches of rain in about 12 hours. Whole neighborhoods flooded.

Our neighborhood escaped major flooding becase a 10 acre lake they're still excavating on the development was empty pre-deluge, but completely filled up during the downpour. Residents are asking "well, what happens next time, when the lake is already full?" Developer repled "well, this was a once every 500 year event, so..." To which the residents replied " the floods of 92, Tropical Storm Alison in 2001, the hurricanes in 2008, Memorial Day last year, now this. SO that's five five-hundred year events in twenty five years..."

Our house was okay, but my AMG CLK63 didn't fare so well. I went through a deeper than I thought puddle and water got sucked into the left cylinder bank. Insurance company is still trying to find a used replacement engine under $10,000...

The great irony, of course, is that the Land Rover Discovery was off the road.... with a radiator hose leak.

good luck in finding an engine under 10k whether it's Pounds or dollars... It's a grand a year to service my C63, nether mind a new engine!

I buy my own oil filters on line then get a local lube shop to do the changes. That is the extent of my servicing. The "if it ain't broke don't mend it" philosophy. The car only goes near the stealership when it's something I can't do myself.

That having been said, before the flood I was due to have the engine and tranny mounts replaced, and all four brake discs and pads need changing soon. US$700 ish each for the front discs on line, $1400 each at the stealership. A day's work for me on the driveway to change the discs and pads.

Luckily I have "new for old" coverage on my insurance which means they have to give me a one year newer car or the cash equivalent if they do write it off.
