After reading the WHF/sky artical on garden cinema it has given me an idea.........

http://whathifi.com/News/Forget-the-drive-in-Sky-Movies-teams-up-with-What-Hi-Fi-Sound-and-Vision-to-help-you-create-a-cinema-in-your-garden/

I can use my second zone and outside speakers for the audio......... construct a screen using canvas and pulleys in between trees.......

The screen would be about 200inches/5m diagonal and be around 20-25m from the projector. Would this be possible from an average home projector (infocus in82) or will it just not be bright enough?

I think the throw is far too great a) because the lamp won't be powerful enough and b) because even zoomed right in the lens will create an image much bigger than that screen.

Is there any reasonably priced projectors that could produce a clear image to fill the screen, if the projector is mounted alot closer?

Well yes, almost any projector, provided your garden is dark and doesn't suffer from light pollution. The problem in the original question was the sheer distance from projector to screen.

Light isn't an issue living 8 miles from town! I have looked at throw distance calculators but none show for screen sizes that big annoyingly. Is there a longer throw length lens? I know most have variable zoom lens but i have no idea what numbers longer and whats shorter! What projectors you recommend pratically for a decent picture with a budget of around 2-3k? Connected to a Pioneer BDP LX91.

Thanks :)
