Galaxy S3 otg USB digital out

I've followed all the on line guides, even tried the USB player pro app and not even a sausage, despite it supposedly being compatible with the dac magic Xs. Any hints, tips as to why mine cannot initialise the dac?

Back to basics, how do I configure android 4.3 to play to an extrenal DAC? I've read about host mode or accessory mode, but none of the forums I found explain it to newbies. I need a simple explanation of how to configure the phone, if it's not just plug and play.
