Full HD and HD Ready for beginners....

OK, can someone please tell me if it is really worth getting a full HD television as opposed to an HD Ready set for a 40 inch LCD? TV would be used mostly for watching digital TV as well as regular DVDs...

I might purchase a blue ray in the future if the story about the blue ray victory (due to Time Warner's recent decision) is true and if prices drop a little...

Any explanation or recommendation in layman's terms please, as I am a beginner in this material.....

For an explanation of the difference between Full HD and HD-ready, read our How To Find Your Ideal TV article.

Even if you do buy a Blu-ray player in the future, a Full HD TV is not essential. Many of the newer HD-ready sets (although not all) will handle a 1080p signal and downscale it to fit the resolution of the screen with little detrimental effect on picture quality.

On screen sizes of 42in and below, it's debatable whether you'll actually see the difference with Full HD.
