I have a Sony CDRW machine which I have had connected to my

Rega Brio-r to transfer LP's onto cd-rw and then on to PC for streaming.

Is this as good a method as the Rega mini phono which has a USB

for direct connection to a PC? If the USB is better, what software would I need to

do the job? Any suggestions welcome!

With regards to software, Audacity (freely downloadable) will happily record for you.

Chopping everything up into tracks and tagging the files is the most laborious part though, and there's no foolproof way to automate it.

As to whether a Rega Mini Phono would have a better phono stage than your Brio-r, and a better ADC than your Sony CDRW, I can't say.

Thanks for the s/w tip, I will have a look. However, the prospect of spending

hours (I have a lot of LP's) faffing around isolating tracks and labelling

fills me with dread, so I may just stick with the CDR.

You'll still have to do that, the CDR will just be one long audio track, so you'll still have to manually edit the tracks once you put them on the PC.

When I first started using the cdr all lp's were a single track.

However, I now sit and listen with the remote in hand and

press 'record' to mark individual tracks. It is a bit restrictive

but at least I get to enjoy the music more!!
