One of the good things about foobar2000 is the endless potential configurations of the UI. I thought it might be interesting to see how the posters on this forum have set theirs up. Here's mine...

I have two views configured, the CD and Filter Views, which sit within a Tab Stack.

The CD View uses Playlist Switcher, Item Properties, Chronflow and NG Playlist

The Filter View uses Playlist Switcher, Item Properties, Album Art, Genre Filter, Artist Filter, Album Filter and NG Playlist

What do you think? Why not post your configuration?

Before anyone asks, I have no affiliation to foobar2000 nor do I contribute any code, configuration or any of my time to the development of the product. I just like it!

Hi PjPro, can you give me any tips on how to get the Chronflow working? I have downloaded the plugin, put the dll in the components folder and I can see it in the display menu, but I don't know how to actually get it showing on the player. To be honest, I've found the UI customisation a bit difficult, I can get sideways columns to come up but nothing horizontal like in iTunes, and on your setup. In truth, I rather like the interface of iTunes but I find the sound throught Foobar with ASIO drivers (I can't get the WASAPI drivers to work) to be much better. If I can get Foobar to look like iTunes then I would be very happy.

Ps. I have posted a thread about the convolver plugin, if you know anything about it then your advice would be appreciated.

Firstly thanks for all the info PJPro, got my PC based music sounding sweet now, and Foobar is getting there. Followed the primer, I have a question.

Iv'e setup my filter view page similar to yours, how do i get the 3 filters to align horizontally, currently mine are stacked on top of each other.

Thanks Ryge

The Lyrics are, i would say, more relavent today than in the '80s when written.

Sorry for the hijack but one of my Favourites just wish Matt would make more.

Might have to look into Foobar a bit more.

Yes, I've always been a bit surprised by the lack of critical acclaim and chart success attracted by Mr Johnson.

The other album I have is Dusk....

Glad to hear you're getting foobar sorted.

To get the three filters to align horizontally, place them within a horizontal splitter. So, for my filter page, the layout is...

Horizontal splitter (this is the tab)
Vertical splitter
Playlist switcher
Item properties
Album Art
Vertical splitter
Horizontal splitter
Filter
Filter
Filter
NG Playlist

Hope this helps.

I still have to finish configuring my wife's foobar gui (the basis of the primer). Maybe I'll include further updates to the primer thread.

Thanks PJPro, I hadn't had a chance to customize the UI yet but now surely will. This looks much better than what I stare at everyday :)

Ooooo. Burning Blue Soul. Not heard of that one.

And what's that CD at the bottom of the picture. The one that looks a bit gay.

PJ,

Your setup looks fantastic.

Are there any remote control options with Foobar? For example, Media Monkey and iTunes have good remote functionality from the Touch. Foobar allows use of the all important Wasapi.

I must get round to doing a nice Foobar interface, I use the defaults with only minor changes at the moment. Thanks PJPro, yet again you've turned out a really useful resource, you little star.

Thanks for the The The reminder too. I'd nearly forgotten my mouldering tape collection. Spotify have more The The than you can shake a stick at. Listening now.

Sorry Robert, can you provide a little more detail (step by step)?

You shouldn't encounter any problems copying a file from one folder to another using explorer, assuming you have adequate privileges. Do you get an error message?

PJPro:Why not post your configuration?

Here's what I've got so far:

Fairly basic, but I'm pleased to have set this up, thanks in no small part to PJP's tutorial.

I've had to do a fair bit of experimentation and playing around with the settings in order to get it to handle compilation albums properly (i.e. not list each individual artist on compilations as if they were separate albums) and to get Chronflow working (in the end the solution was to create a separate folder for artwork, rather than store the jpegs in the individual music folders). All good fun though. Next task: to get it to ignore "The" at the beginning of artist's names, e.g. so that "The Beatles" are filed under B rather than T.

Nice one tractorboy....and irrefutable evidence that someone else does actually use foobar2000 on this forum!

No problem.

How did you manage to sort this out? Tweaking the tags?

So, I'm not the only nerd.

You must be pretty happy with your foobar setup if you're getting into the weeds.

The other things you could have a look at are the PnP Media Server (fab for streaming, especially to a PS3) or there's a few lyric plugins. I had a play with a lyric thing but it didn't really do it for me.....but worth a look?

Yup, selecting a whole album, right clicking, properties, and entering the name of the album into the "Album Artist" field. That sorted it automatically. I guess though the effectiveness of this will depend on how Foobar has been set up to sort files in the main Foobar properties sections.

Looks like there's a few. See here. I think the one you are after is the bluetooth control. The development thread can be found here. I don't know good it is and can't try it out as I only have a very basic phone which used only for phoning people. It hasn't even got a camera!

I've been using Foobar2000 for a month now PJPro after reading your original post. I am using the WASAPI plugin and it has really made a significanrt difference. I am awaiting items from DABS.ie to build a HTPC in the living room to utilise Foobar2000 as a jukebox and put the CD player into early retirement. I may invest in a DACMagic further down the line when funds allow.

I tried fiddling with the Columns UI but found it a little awkward, however I did get Chronflow to work. To be honest I prefer the default setting and particularly like the built in visualisations, especially the Spectrum Analyser.

What I would like to do is integrate Chronflow with the default layout which I imagine is not possible. Plus if I were to have a party I would love to be able to integrate G-Force visualisation which I have paid for on Windows Media Player. There is a plugin for Columns UI via Winamp but I can't make it work.

PJPro:You can use the foobar visualisations in Columns UI. I don't know anything about the G-Force component. Sorry

How?

When I look in the preferences for Columns UI and try to set up panels and splitters none of the Default UI visualisations are listed (Oscilloscope, Spectrum, Peak Meter, VU Meter).

Well, I added the spectrum visualisation panel to my Columns UI.....although, as you say, the others aren't available.

Spectrum Analyser in foobar2000.

I've also downloaded the Shpeck component (for adding Winamp visualisation plugins). Which plugin do you want to run and I'll have a go. Milkdrop? But.....I'm not going to install Winamp (as you have to for the latest versions of Milkdrop).
