I want to upgrade my floorstanders to match my Yamaha A-S1000.

My current speakers are Acoustic Energy Neo 3. I do not feel they justify my system, i.e they are the weak link atm.

I have been thinking of auditioning:

B&W CM7, B&W 684 & 683, Monitor Audio RS6. I even had a cheeky audition of the Yamaha Soavo-1 local dealer cut the price to £1500 which was tempting, but im unsure :S

Does anyone have an recommendations...I will go to £1000 for a new pair, preference of floorstanders over standmounts. I do own some atacama stands, which are currently redundant in the cupboard.

Comments? Opinions? anyone own Yamaha gear that could recommend a match?

I spent about 2 years with the B&W CM7 and I have listened to the RS6 on more than 1 occasion. It's just my opinion, but the CM7 is breathtaking with vocals and midrange. You will not get the same degree of detail and air with the RS6. However, the RS6 is smoother and a better all-arounder. With the CM7, some music can sound harsh and some music can create bloated bass. The RS6 does not seem to suffer from those problems. The bass is tighter and faster with the RS6. So, it depends what you want. The CM7 has more wow factor in my book, but the RS6 sounds good all the time with everything.

I personally do not like the B&W 684 when compared to the CM7. Midrange sounds boxy in side by side comparisons. Also, the CM7 is very modern and sharp looking.

I do not think you can go wrong with either the CM7 or the RS6. They are both outstanding...

Just managed to get a pair of B&W CM7's in maple finish (matches my furnishings and amp). Get this though, in as new condition for £649 (£999 rsp), from Sevenoaks in Southampton...what a bargain, they arrive on Thursday, will let you know what I think of them when they arrive and I have a play :)

Apparently its that price as the Maple finish is discontinued and not shifting, all the better for maple lovers hehe

Congrats :)

Lovely speakers; my other half has them with her Cyrus 8v2/xPower and 8SE CDP system and they sound superb.

Lovely, smooth and detailed midrange (superb with vocals), great treble and solid, punchy, deep bass.

Got my CM7's today, they sound just as good as they did in the demo room, i cant believe what i was missing since I owned the Neo 3's. Dont get me wrong, the Neo 3's did everything very well, remarkable speakers, its just the CM7's do all that much better. Very happy now I have hifi that also looks very similar in wood maple effect :)

Hi,

I've recently bought some Tannoy Revolution Signature DC6T's (£830 rrp £1000) and been blown away with the detail and depth of sound they produce. I would imagine they would go well with your Yamaha Amp, as it sounds like this isn't a 'bright' sounding piece of kit.

Definitely worth an Audition.

Unfortunately i did not manage to audition those Tannoys, but I really wanted to find them (they would visibly match the A-S1000). They are stunning, and have good reviews, I will never know now, im so happy with the CM7's though, its like listening to my music all over again, cant stop!

£830 is a great price for those Tan's, nice one...what amp do you have mate?

I have the Roksan Kandy LIII presently - I was initially a little afraid the Amp may not be quite up to matching the Speakers, but I heard them in a shop in combo, and have subsequently been blown away with the extra detail and depth provided. Might upgrade to the Caspian next, but I'll have to save my pennies for a while....
