Thanks to the understanding of my musically converted wife, (former roxette fan...) we finally have a system that really sings..
It started when my Akai system fell over in 1988 and someone demo'd a Pioneer A400. Wow what a revelation and another stack system sinner was saved!
First system was a Pioneer A400, 128 strand cable, Mission 780 speakers on atacama stands, pioneer multi-disc player
1992 saw me pick up a second hand Naim Audio CDI with some naim cable
1994 saw me replace the Pioneer A400 for Myryad MA120/MI120 amplifiers which saw me into the new century with some Ecosse interconnects
1996 I replaced the Missions for some awesome sounding Monitor Audio Silver 9i's and get a Rega Plannar 3 with RB250 arm.
1998 was a bit of a desert for hi-fi but I married the missus......
2000 saw the birth of my first son.....
2002 saw the birth of my second son
and a move to a detached house with a 18ft by 14ft front room
but also saw the demise of the Naim CDI
Replaced with a TEAC VRDS 10 with a rare australian Music Labs dac
2004 I made a mistake and replaced the Music Labs DAC with a Musical Fidelity TriVista DAC. The Music Labs DAC was awesome and I sold it to get the TriVista DAC, which is also awesome but the problem was with the unregulated clock output from the TEAC. So I clocked the TEAC with a Trichord clock 4
Constructed my own mains cleaner from two three stage Shaffner filters
and all the screened mains cables.
2006 I bought a set of damaged Kef Reference Fours and replaced the treble crossovers and a Dynavector mk IV MC cartridge for the Rega
2008 Replaced the Myryads with a Musical Fidelity KW550 and the cables for bi-wire Chord Odyssey and the interconnects for JAV audio silver. Had to mod the Sound Organisation stand to fit the KW550.
and thats where we are today, forgive the two year jumps but:
Trichord Clock 4 modded TEAC VRDS 10 into a Musical Fidelity TriVista DAC, Rega Plannar 3 with RB250 arm and a Dynavector mk IV MC cartridge, Musical Fidelity KW550, Kef Reference Fours, Chord Odyssey bi-wired cable and JAV silver interconnects, shaffner multi stage mains cleaners.
The Kefs are really awesome, the low presence bass is just staggering but it takes the KW550 to make them sing and at low/reasonable volume. The Myryads couldn't handle the boys...the speakers I mean... With the exception of the TriVista, Missions, cables and the Rega, all purchased secondhand.
Would have uploaded a pic but this is my first post and I didn't have permission!
My new reference CD is In Rainbows by Radiohead.
Let me know what you think!
