Hi

I am looking to purchase a 37/40 inch LCD TV for our spare room. I have been checking out reviews at various websites and I have yet to choose which TV to go for.

My budget is around the £1500 mark and the TV will be mainly used for playing the PS3, watching movies and viewing alot of sport.

The TV's I have come across so far are the Sony WDL40W4000, Samsung LE40A656/856 & the Philips Ambilight has taken my eye.

The quality of the sound is not really an issue as I am looking at getting a surround system.

I've read that the Sony Bravia Range is good for gaming and movies but the Samsung TV's tend to have a better contrast ratio and response time, which is said to be good for gaming & high action sports.

I would be grateful if people could shed some light on whether the TV's mentioned above are suitable for my needs and to name any other LCD TV's that I can take a look at.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you not considered any Plasma sets? You will find Plasma sets in this size of screen tend to offer much better value for money.

No, I have not considered plasmas yet as I have not read anywhere that makes me think they will benefit me more than LCD's.

What plasma sets do you recommend?

You could go for say the Panasonic TH42PZ80 which can be found for about £730 which is under half you budget. Its Full HD 1080p will handle SD better than the LCD's you mention and definatly handle Sport better. Your PS3 will also look fantastic on it.
